VERONICA

Versatile European Reactor for Neutron Irradiation and nuclear research.

Timeline

The VERONICA project is a vital step in continuing the development of Slovenia as a nuclear state.

Timeline

Develop a Vision and Pave the Way to Implementation of a Research Reactor

Identify Stakeholder Needs

Analyze existing research reactors in Europe, gather nuclear energy data, and pinpoint potential users like research institutes, industries, and government agencies to ensure the reactor meets diverse demands.

1

Define Technical Requirements

Evaluate reactor designs (zero-power and multipurpose), assess their safety and performance, and use simulations for critical analyses like neutron transport and thermal behavior.

2

Select Reactor Concept

Collaborate with experts to select a dual-reactor design combining a zero-power reactor and a multipurpose reactor, with the possibility of co-locating them in one facility.

3

Develop Business Model

Conduct a feasibility study to estimate costs, assess economic and societal impacts, navigate regulatory requirements, and position the reactor as a vital asset in the European market.
